Getting to Vancouver

Depending on where you are flying from, getting to Vancouver can be the most expensive part. If you are looking to save a few dollars, make sure you look into ultra-low fare airlines like Swoop and Flair. Unfortunately Swoop Airlines will be no more in the coming months, but I was impressed any time I’ve ever flown with them. I’ve attached an Expedia search engine for you to be able to directly look for flights!

Tips for flying to Vancouver:

  • Book at least 3 weeks prior to your intended departure to get below-average flights

  • Consider flying into Abbotsford - this can be a cheaper option compared to flying into YVR International Airport

  • Search for flights in an “Incognito” or Private Browser. The more you look at flights online, the more the prices are likely to go up - enticing you to book. This is a marketing tactic put out by booking engines and airlines.

Getting Around

If you’ve ever been to Vancouver (which I had not prior to this trip in March 2023), you know how busy the traffic can be. You do have a few options when it comes to getting around, but some of those options do restrict on how far you can go, and also can rack up the bills. You can get an Uber to get around, which can get quite expensive if you are wanting to cram as much in as you can. You could look into renting a car from somewhere like Budget Car Rentals or Enterprise.

Where to Stay in Vancouver

When it comes to finding good hotel accommodations in Vancouver, the options are plentiful and diverse. Whether you prefer luxury or budget-friendly stays, Vancouver has it all. The city is known for its world-class hospitality, and hotels here go above and beyond to make guests feel comfortable. From elegant boutique hotels with stunning views of the mountains and ocean to modern chains with top-notch amenities, there is something to suit every traveler's taste. Many hotels in Vancouver are also eco-conscious, ensuring sustainable practices without compromising on quality. With friendly staff, spacious rooms, and convenient locations near attractions and public transportation, visitors are guaranteed a pleasant and memorable stay in the beautiful city of Vancouver.

I ended up staying with a friend while in Vancouver, so if you happen to have any suggestions for accommodations, please feel free to comment them below, or use the Hotels.com search engine!

Sea to Sky Gondola

Suspension Bridge. Hiking Trails. Mountain Top Yoga.

This place has it all. When I was here in March, while it was raining at the base of the Sea to Sky Gondola, it was snowing large flakes as we made our ascent. We weren’t quite expecting the snow - which I should’ve known, really - so we weren’t overly prepared to spend an afternoon hiking in it. We explored around the suspension bridge and then the indoor gift shop, and after taking a few photos we decided to make our way back down to head to our next destination.

Budget Tip: If you’re up for a little adventure, opt to hike up the mountain. It is a lot cheaper to take the gondola one way! Also pre-purchasing your tickets online will save you a few dollars.

Cherry Blossoms at David Lam Park

If you’re visiting to Vancouver in the spring months, you have to go on a cherry blossom hunt. Have you ever seen cherry blossoms before? Because I have not, and this was my first time. I was blown away, but I will say that I wish we had went on a week day because during the weekend it was a zoo.

The enchanting sight of cherry blossoms at David Lam Park in Vancouver is simply breathtaking. As spring blankets the city, delicate pink and white petals adorn the branches of the cherry trees, transforming the park into a whimsical wonderland. The air is filled with a floral fragrance, with crowds of visitors taking leisurely strolls within the park's serene surroundings. The blossoms create a picturesque backdrop, so don’t forget to bring your camera!

Granville Island Public Market

What is the Granville Island Market, you ask? Only the coolest market I have EVER been to.

The Granville Island Market is a bustling hub of vibrant activity and culinary delights. Situated in the heart of Vancouver, Canada, this iconic market offers a diverse array of fresh produce, artisanal food, and one-of-a-kind crafts. As you explore the market, you are greeted with so many different scents through the air, making it hard to resist sampling the wide range of international cuisines and local delicacies. From freshly caught seafood to aromatic spices, from gourmet chocolates to freshly baked bread, the market caters to every taste bud. The lively atmosphere is enhanced by talented street performers, adding to the lively, energetic charm of the place. With its rich history, bustling energy, and delectable offerings, the Granville Island Market is a true culinary and cultural highlight.

We stopped by Hobbs Pickles and picked up 2 containers of pickles that may or may not of been finished by the time we made it back to my friends house…

White Rock Beach

If you’re up for a little adventure, head into White Rock for the afternoon to enjoy the beach and walk along the pier. It was incredibly tranquil spending the afternoon here - it wasn’t nearly as busy as I expected it to be with it being early season! We then had lunch at Charlie Don’t Surf - one of White Rock’s many oceanfront restaurants. I highly suggest trying the Caesar for a drink and Nachos. The iconic white rock that stands tall at the water's edge adds a touch of mystique to the landscape and serves as a natural landmark for visitors.

Sunset at Spanish Banks Beach

I was on a mission to find the best sunset in Vancouver, in such little time and I definitely think I succeeded. Watching the sunset at Spanish Banks Beach is an awe-inspiring experience. As the golden hour approaches, the sky transforms into a mesmerizing palette of fiery hues, painting a breathtaking backdrop over the Pacific Ocean. The rhythmic sound of crashing waves and the cool ocean breeze create a soothing atmosphere, inviting you to unwind and soak in the beauty of nature's masterpiece. The beach's wide expanse offers plenty of space to find the perfect spot to witness this daily spectacle. As the sun dips below the horizon, the vibrant colours intensify, casting a warm glow that illuminates the surrounding mountains and city skyline. As you stand on the sandy shore, taking in the tranquility and beauty of Spanish Banks Beach at sunset, you can't help but feel a sense of gratitude and connection with the world around you.
